On Thursday, September 26th at 7:00 pm, the Jewish Caucus is proud to be hosting a Zoom fundraiser for Senator Lisa Grafstein. Lisa represents Wake County and is the only Jewish member of the State Senate.
Before serving in the legislature, she worked as a civil rights attorney for nearly 30 years and secured major victories for women, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities.
In the Senate, she was the leading voice for the Shalom Act, the recent bill to help combat antisemitism in North Carolina. She authored and passed a resolution of solidarity and support after October 7th. She’s been a vocal supporter of our caucus and is an active member of Beth Or Synagogue in Raleigh.
Lisa’s race is a crucial “must-win” race for Democrats this election cycle. Due to redistricting, her district is split almost 50/50, making her the most vulnerable Democratic Senate incumbent. Because of Tricia Cotham’s party switch and the resulting Republican supermajority in the N.C. House, small dollar donations have gone overwhelmingly to House candidates this cycle, leaving Senate candidates without much funding. It would be a tragedy if we broke the Republican supermajority in the House only to end up with a Republican supermajority in the Senate because we failed to adequately invest in our Democratic incumbents. Every dollar that Lisa raises is an investment in making sure that a future Governor Josh Stein has the ability to veto Republican legislation. Her race should be a priority for Democrats across the state, not just in Wake County.
At the fundraiser, we’ll hear from Lisa about her race, policy issues facing our state, and how Jewish values inform her work. Click here to sign up & donate. Contributing any amount gets you access to the Zoom via a link sent in your email receipt from ActBlue. Please consider contributing even if you can’t attend, we’ll send a recording of the Zoom to all donors. Donors of $180 or more will be added to the Host Committee.
