SUMMARY:Raleigh City Council District E Volunteer Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:We are writing to ask ALL of our members to do a great Mitzvah!  Please help Democrat John Cerqueira get elected to the Raleigh City Council for District E by poll greeting for him at early voting sites and on Election Day in District E. \nWe are working with John’s volunteer coordinator to help staff Lake Lynn Community Center and Laurel Hills Community Center early voting sites for 2-3 hour blocks to hand out John’s information card\, during the high-traffic Sundays listed below.  To help\, REPLY TO THIS EMAIL ASAP to let us know which shifts and locations you can do. \nSundays: October 20 and/or October 27\nLake Lynn Community Center \n\n12:45-3:30pm\n3:30-6:00pm\n\nLaurel Hills Community Center \n\n12:45-3:30pm\n3:30-6:00pm\nOther shifts Mon-Fri? – let us know your availability\nAND if you live in District E\, can you put up a yard sign for John?  We deliver!\n\nWe need to help John by handing out his qualifications to voters so they are aware that there is another very qualified Democrat running for District E.  Without our help\, Dems who go to the polls will get handed the WCDP slate card but won’t know that John is also running and is extremely well qualified and is a unifier\, not a divider\, unlike Christina Jones who was endorsed by WCDP against many many objections. \nWe also want to help him on Election Day at voting sites in District E\, but we will contact you later about that. Please see below for why this is important! \nWhy Do We Need to Help John Cerqueira?\nJohn is the NCDP Jewish Caucus endorsed candidate over Christina Jones who pushed divisive anti-Israel resolutions at the Raleigh City Council after October 7 and also was photographed wearing a kefiyah and hugging Rania Masra\, who called October 7 “a beautiful day”. When asked at recent meetings if she would commit to not bringing divisive foreign policy issues before the city council in the future if she were re-elected\, she would not commit to not doing it again. \nHere is the background on why John needs our help….. The Wake County Democratic Party was asked by many current and former city and statewide Democratic party leaders\, including the NCDP Jewish Caucus\, NOT to endorse any Democrat over another in the Raleigh City Council races\, yet the WCDP chose to endorse Christina Jones. Her name\, therefore\, will appear on Democratic slate cards handed out by WCDP poll greeters during early voting and Election Day. John needs help getting his information out to voters at the polls who may not be aware that another qualified Dem is running. \nSome Info About John (https://www.john4raleigh.com/about)\nJohn grew up in Durham and Cary\, attended NC State. He earned an MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School\, where he studied urban planning and organizational change\, strengthening a career centered on understanding people\, solving complex problems\, and giving back to the community. \nHe helped found Skate Raleigh\, a non-profit that brought the Conlon Family Skate Park downtown\, demonstrating the power of public-private partnerships. John also volunteers to coach the junior varsity basketball team at Our Lady of Lourdes\, where his daughter is on the team. \nIn his current professional life\, John helps organizations manage and work through the impacts of change. This provides him with a unique ability to meet diverse parties where they are and understand their concerns\, working toward common ground and effective solutions. \nJohn has the unique qualifications to lead Raleigh forward! \nWe would really like to have our members be a presence in this vital effort to elect John.  We hope that you will volunteer!

SUMMARY:Sen. Lisa Grafstein Zoom Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 26th at 7:00 pm\, the Jewish Caucus is proud to be hosting a Zoom fundraiser for Senator Lisa Grafstein. Lisa represents Wake County and is the only Jewish member of the State Senate. \nBefore serving in the legislature\, she worked as a civil rights attorney for nearly 30 years and secured major victories for women\, the LGBTQ+ community\, and people with disabilities. \nIn the Senate\, she was the leading voice for the Shalom Act\, the recent bill to help combat antisemitism in North Carolina. She authored and passed a resolution of solidarity and support after October 7th. She’s been a vocal supporter of our caucus and is an active member of Beth Or Synagogue in Raleigh. \nLisa’s race is a crucial “must-win” race for Democrats this election cycle. Due to redistricting\, her district is split almost 50/50\, making her the most vulnerable Democratic Senate incumbent. Because of Tricia Cotham’s party switch and the resulting Republican supermajority in the N.C. House\, small dollar donations have gone overwhelmingly to House candidates this cycle\, leaving Senate candidates without much funding. It would be a tragedy if we broke the Republican supermajority in the House only to end up with a Republican supermajority in the Senate because we failed to adequately invest in our Democratic incumbents. Every dollar that Lisa raises is an investment in making sure that a future Governor Josh Stein has the ability to veto Republican legislation. Her race should be a priority for Democrats across the state\, not just in Wake County. \nAt the fundraiser\, we’ll hear from Lisa about her race\, policy issues facing our state\, and how Jewish values inform her work. Click here to sign up & donate. Contributing any amount gets you access to the Zoom via a link sent in your email receipt from ActBlue. Please consider contributing even if you can’t attend\, we’ll send a recording of the Zoom to all donors. Donors of $180 or more will be added to the Host Committee.

SUMMARY:Gov Roy Cooper and Mayor Baldwin Reception for Nicole Sidman
DESCRIPTION:Nicole Sidman\, a member of our caucus and the dynamic Democrat running to unseat Tricia Cotham\, is hosting a special fundraiser on Tuesday\, September 24th at 5:30 pm in the Raleigh-Durham area. Governor Roy Cooper and Mayor Baldwin will be speaking at the event. Tickets and more information can be found by clicking here. \nJoin Nicole Sidman in Raleigh for a Special Event\n\nPlease join Nicole Sidman\, candidate for North Carolina House District 105\, for a special event in Raleigh. \nTuesday\, Sept. 24 \n5:30 – 7:00 PM \nRaleigh\, NC 27608 \n(Address provided upon RSVP) \nNicole is the Democratic nominee to take on Tricia Cotham. Nicole’s race will likely be the most important and expensive house race in North Carolina as this seat could mean the difference between sustaining the governor’s veto or continuing the GOP’s supermajority.
